For those of you who have not gotten the book Making the Cut, or have not had time to research the formula for calculating your BMR, or haven’t gone online, please read this post. It is very important to your lifestyle adventure to have this magic number; you will be so much more efficient and lose more weight if you have this valuable piece of knowledge.
Your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the calories your body uses/needs to sustain itself. You use energy no matter what you’re doing (sleeping, running, eating, watching tv, swimming). You need to know how much you are supposed to be feeding yourself so you can lose the most weight safely and effectively.
How to Calculate Your BMR
BMR Formula for Women: 655 + (4.35 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) – (4.7 x age in years)
BMR Formula for Men: 66 + (6.34 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) – (6.8 x age in years)
BMR Example for Women:
655 + (4.35 x 125.6) + (4.7 x 63) – (4.7 x 31)
= 655 + (546.36) + (296.1) – (145.7)
= 1351.76 or 1352 calories per day
